Heiler has made sure that third division football club SV Meppen 1912 e.V. can receive its guests on a first-class, winter-proof playing field that is compliant with the German FA regulations.
The new field was necessary because the stadium previously had no under pitch heating and the playing surface was impermeable in several places.
The renovation works started immediately after the last home game of the 2017/18 season on 07 May. They removed 5 cm of the turf, 4,000 m² of topsoil and installed 28,000 m of heating pipes. They also installed a sprinkler system before adding 8,900 m² of turf. The job was completed within just two months.
The high-quality turf was imported from the Netherlands. The total installation of the turf took just 24 hours.
The new lawn was inaugurated on Saturday 21 July with a blitz tournament attended by 5,419 spectators. At the successful premiere, the traditional clubs Hamburger SV and Stoke City (England) were guests in the Hänsch Arena.
